TIE-dyed eggs! haha

Okay, so I saw this idea a couple months back from our best bites and have been DYEing to try it (get it, dyeing, lol). Anyways, mine didn't come out as nearly as awesome as I had expected them to, but it's still a pretty cool process.


My husband owns maybe three ties, so I had to venture out to our local Goodwill to get some cheap ones. I only got four, the cheapest i could find. (Can you believe they were charging $3.49 for some of them? Sorry, but I wasn't going to pay that for a used tie....especially one that was going to be cut and boiled).

I still plan on making more but I have to stitch the rest of the scraps together to cover more eggs. And I ran out of time cause I had to pick CalJ up from school. Tomorrow I will make more......and for some reason my husband thinks he has the magic touch and will be able to make them brighter.....we...shall...see. :)

Baby legs

You can find a tutorial for baby legs/legwarmers almost anywhere here on the web, and I've seen a handful of variations on making them. I think the best (if not easiest) way is just

1) cutting off the foot part (of a knee high, womans sock) right at the ankle (making sure it's a straight cut)

2) turn inside out and foldover the cut edge

3) sew raw edge using a straight stitch

4) turn right side out again, and adore.

Produce bags

Here is a great tutorial from smashed peas and carrots for your own reusable produce bags.

I made some for myself and must say they came in pretty handy.

And they were cheap, cheap, cheap. I made four for only $1.07. And I have leftover fabric that I'm sure I'll put to good use. :)

Caleb's other "artwork"

Yes, I've featured some of Caleb's artwork before, but this time I was less then thrilled.



It happened somewhere in between me getting dinner ready last night and Josh changing Ry-pies diaper. Thank goodness for magic erasers!

Oh, and look what I found this morning as I was getting ready to mop. Seriously? He's turning 4 next month!!! I didn't think alomost 4 year olds would do something like this.

Spring???

Today was officially the first day of Spring.

Blooming flowers, chirping birdies, green grass and flowers blooming.....right? Not today in New Mexico. This is what our first day of spring looked like





And in true New Mexico fashion it had all melted by the afternoon.

*sigh*

Let's see what kind of weather we'll get this week.

Carrot Barrettes

It's spring! Well......almost....except for the fact that it snowed today. Anyways, I made Ry-pie some cute little carrot barrettes. What's up doc?

Supplies:
Orange and green felt
Scissors
Glue
Hand sewing needle and thread
Snap barrette

Cut two rectangles from the orange fabric

Then cut a small slit into the center of one of the felt rectangles.

Now slide the opened bottom part of the barrette into the slit like this...

Then just place the other felt rectangle on top to sandwich the barrette between the felt pieces.
Now take your needle and thread, and stitch all around the barrette, as close to the actual barrette as you can.


Now just trim the excess felt around the entire barrette, as close to the stitching as you can get with out cutting into the stitched part.

Lastly, cut out your little carrot stem using the green felt and glue to the top of your carrot. Now just ooh and aah over the cuteness! :)

Fruit Sushi

We LOVE sushi in this house. CalJ tries it every time and every time he spits it out. But I have become fond of making him different kinds of "kid friendly" sushi. Peanut butter and jelly sushi, roast beef and carrot sushi. Well, the possibilities are seemingly endless. I decided to make him a kind of dessert sushi. And thus, fruit sushi was born!

I started out with banana chunks.

And just used a cake decorator tip to cut out the hole in the center.

I rolled the banana chunk in just a bit of lime juice to prevent any browning (plus to help the coconut stick).

Then I just rolled the banana in the coconut to coat.


Line it up neatly onto a serving platter.
Then just fill the banana with assorted fruits of your choice that have been cut in very thin strips and the same length as the banana. I used pineapple, kiwi, cantaloupe, and peaches. I also smashed up a kiwi to represent the wasabi and cut thin slices of frozen peaches as the ginger (although looking at the pictures, the peaches kind of look like raw salmon, oh well).



Even Ry-pie gets down with sushi. Well the "scraps" from the fruit sushi....all mashed up. Yum-yum!

Play-doh cookies

I was the parent helper at Caleb's school today and had to bring snack. I wanted to bring a special treat and remembered seeing these play-doh cookies, click here for the how-to.

I made them the same way, on a much smaller scale, and without the lollipop sticks.

Channeling Peg Bundy

So my mother-in-law has bought the baby a couple of leopard print things (like this) and every time I see this shirt I can't help but envision Peggy Bundy! So of course, I decided to play dress up....just to get it out of my system already.


The hair didn't come out like I wanted but Ry-pies hair is so dang curly it was hard to get the full effect. (Notice the comb in each shot, she would NOT let me take it from her. I suppose I should've put a bowl of bon bons in front of her....in true Peggy fashion).





Now, all I need to complete the outfit are these. KIDDING! I would never buy these....although this Peg Bundy get-up would be cute for Halloween. Uh-oh.
